The Town:

La Tranche Tourist information site (In English) - http://www.ot-latranchesurmer.fr/gb/

Situated on the Atlantic coast in the Vendee, La Tranche sur Mer is one of the loveliest and most unspoilt holiday destinations in France. Situated only a few degrees North of Mediterranean resorts, La Tranche offers the same annual hours of sunshine. The finest beaches in France are easy walking distance and the more adventurous can indulge in wind surfing, surf boarding, sail boarding, and water sports of every description on 9km of soft sandy beaches. La Tranche lies between Sable d'Olonne and La Rochelle and immediately to the West of the delightful Marais area (also known as the Venise Verte, or Green Venice). It is sheltered by the historic island of Ile De Re which protects it from the Atlantic Ocean, giving it excellent safe bathing. See 'Things to do' section of this site for more specific details on beaches, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, golf, parks, restaurants, casino etc etc

The administrative capital of the Vendee, Roche sur Yon is a mere 40km away.  The beautiful port of La Rochelle is just 45minutes to the south, and Les Sable d'Olonne a similar distance to the North. Not far to the East lies the delightful medieval city of Fontenay le Comte, and nearby to that the charming villages of Vouvant and Mervent.

The Vendee:

The Vendée is best known for its sunny climate, clear blue skies and fabulous sandy beaches. Stunning beaches at both La Tranche and Ile d'Ré, fashionable La Rochelle with its harbourside cafés and restaurants, the verdant scenery of the Haut Bocage and the unique waterways of the Marais Poitevin. Major attractions like Futuroscope and Puy du Fou are only an hour away. Added to that, there are interesting historical towns, markets, shopping centres, châteaux, museums, zoos, aquariums and a wide range of sporting venues including golf, tennis, riding.

The soft sandy beaches of the South West Vendée are magnificent. Both unspoilt and uncrowded they stretch for miles and miles in one of the sunniest parts of France. Starting from the town of Auiguillon in the south of the Vendée( 20 minutes from us ) you can follow the bay through to La Faute sur mer and then onto La Tranche sur mer. Always in the lea of the Ile de Ré, the beaches are gently sloping and the waves are small making them ideal for families with young children.

See 'Things to do' section of this site for more specific details on La Rochelle, Futuroscope, Mervent, Venise Vert, Puy de Fou, Ile de Re, Cognac, Vouvant, etc etc.

Market Town:

La Tranche is a Market town, with markets on Tuesdays and Fridays each week.

Local Activities:

For the more adventurous the more open stretches of beach are favoured by surfers surfing on the rolling breakers of the Atlantic. See 'Things to do' section of this site for more specific details on beaches, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, golf, parks, restaurants, casino etc etc
